Heidi came from a home of severe abuse with her brother and three sisters were moved into the child welfare system. After 14 years of the foster care system she experienced her share of early childhood trauma. As an adult and mother of two daughters she uses her story to encourage others that they too can heal from trauma and live beautiful fulfilling lives.

Episode 6 – Chronic Pain with Heather White

Chronic pain can take control of your entire life but there are ways to make it through it.

In this episode, I am talking to Heather White. Heather is a married mother of 2 and has worked for the Kinston Police Department in Kinston, NC.  Heather has lived with chronic pain since she was 19 years old following a horseback riding accident After 2 surgeries causing permanent nerve damage, she was legally declared disabled in 2014 due to back pain, knee pain, and Chiari Malformation.

Her journey of advocating for her own health and surrounding herself with supportive people is inspiring. Listen in as we discuss how every day is different with chronic pain, the judgments you have to deal with from other people, and finding joy in your life.

Episode 5 – Bullying and Mental health with Patrick Monette

Sometimes it can be hard to be your true self especially in the world we are living in. Today I am talking to Patrick Monette about having faith in yourself and loving yourself because you are worthy. 

Patrick is a licensed Mental Health Counselor. He was raised in a large Catholic family and had a difficult time with the messages that the church was giving him which caused him to question his life.

In this episode, we talk about depression, bullying, and the importance of speaking up for yourself.

We are diving into faith, God, and religion in this episode with Tiffany Matthews. Tiffany Mathews is a person who believes that stories matter and that in them we find ourselves. It was through stories exchanged in letters that my husband and I fell in love. It was through his story and heart that I came to love my first child and watching the stories of my younger two develop has been one of my greatest joys. It is through stories that I have become invested in the child welfare system and in the power of community and belonging.

Iya Ifasola Osunponmile Fayemi Karen Langston is the founder of Alake Creations. Alake means one that should be taken care of, as this is her approach to creating space for others to heal and grow in their personal spiritual journeys. Iya Osunponmile’s mission is to assist others in embracing their will to move forward by using spiritual tools, divination, and rituals. Her work also focuses on decolonizing the mind and misconceptions about African Traditional Religions.

Iya Osunponmile was initiated as a Priest/Iyanifa in the West African indigenous tradition of Ifa in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria by Oluwo Ifasola Akanbi in 2018. Ifa is an ancient spiritual system that is defined as the wisdom of nature. Listen in as Iya takes us through the history of religion and spirituality, understanding generational trauma, and how ignoring things doesn’t make them go away.

Tereska is a single mother, writer, poet, and activist. She grew up experiencing domestic violence and fear but was able to find her release through poetry and putting her feelings into words.
